The International Symposium on Experimental and Computational Aerothermodynamics of Internal Flows (ISAIF) originated in 1989 when Professor Chen Nai-Xing (then Director of the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics CAS) visited the Institute of Thermomechanics of the Czechoslovak AS in Prague, to discuss and encourage scientific and technical cooperation in interrnal aerodynamics between both Institutes. Resulting from the discussion, was also the idea to organize scientific Symposia and alternate them between the East and West. Thus, the 1st Symposium on Aerothermodynamics of Internal Flows (ISAIF) was organized by Professor Chen Nai-Xing in Beijing in 199O, followed by the 2nd ISAIF in Prague three years later organized by Dr. Rudolf Dvořák (Institute of Thermomechanics, CzAS). During the 3rd ISAIF, a regular Scientific Committee was set up with Professor Yu Shen acting as Secretary. Since then, over 13 more Symposia were held alternately in Asia and Europe, attended by scientist from all over the world.
The primary objective of the ISAIF is to bring together scientists, academicians and engineers to communicate and discuss recent findings and experience in research on aerothermodynamics of internal flows. Exchanging new ideas and results among specialists in the field is essential for expanding knowledge and effectively advancing the design of devices that operate with and rely on fluids.
